About PVD Coven/Artist Bios:

PVD Coven is a broom making workshop started by Ayumi Kodama and Cutter Hutton. The pair lead classes to introduce the craft and techniques of broom making in an effort to share skills and strengthen the creative communities within Rhode Island.

Cutter was drawn to broom making because of its simple hand made nature and the meditative process of the craft. Broom making serves as a counterpoint to his professional work as a product and furniture designer. He also teaches at the Rhode Island School of Design in the Furniture and Industrial Design Departments.

Ayumi is an artist and designer working across mediums, from glass and textiles to the grasses and fibers of broom making. She has integrated broom making into her creative practice, creating sculptural pieces and installations. Most recently at an art residency at the Centre d'art Jardins Racine in Québec, Canada where she made her first site specific broom with grass fibers and driftwood found on the property.
